Jesus Christ Our Savior

Jesus Christ is the central figure of Christianity. Jesus is revered by most Christian churches as the Son of God and the incarnation of God. Islam considers Jesus Christ a prophet.

Jesus, who is called Christ, is the firstborn of the Father in the spirit and the Only Begotten of the Father in the flesh. He is Jehovah, and was foreordained to his great calling in the Grand Councils before the world was.

He was born of Mary at Bethlehem, lived a sinless life, and wrought out a perfect atonement for all mankind by the shedding of his blood and his death on the cross. He rose from the grave and brought to pass the bodily resurrection of every living thing and the salvation and exaltation of the faithful.

He is the greatest Being to be born on this earth--the perfect example--and all religious things should be done in his name. He is Lord of lords, King of kings, the Creator, the Savior, the God of the whole earth, the Captain of our salvation, the Bright and Morning Star. He is in all things, above all things, through all things, and round about all things; he is Alpha and Omega, the first and the last; his name is above every name, and is the only name under heaven by which we can be saved.

He will come again in power and glory to dwell on the earth, and will stand as Judge of all mankind at the last day.

Of Him, the Prophet Joseph Smith said "And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!" (D&C 76:22)

Jesus Christ - A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief

"The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets, concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; and all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it." - Joseph Smith

Oh Lord My Redeemer

I liked them both so am posting both. Another of my favorite songs.

You CAN Believe In Christ

The Galilean Sand

This is one of my favorite songs about the Savior. It always moves me.

Songs of the Heart

There is power in music. It can move the sould and bring the spirit. It delivers messages to the heart.

Some of the most powerful music on earth is music written about Jesus Christ the Savior and Redeemer of mankind.

I think I have gotten carried away posting music about the Savior from youtube and I am going to continue to do so unashamedly and without apology. For anything that brings us closer to the Savior is good. Anything that uplifts the heart and enlarges the soul is good. Anything that keeps Him in our hearts and minds is good.

 Remember the Lord has said:

Doctrine and Covenants 25:12

12 For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads.

Here are some more scriptures about the power of songs.

Psalms 28:7

7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
  • Ephesians 5:19

    19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

    Colossians 3:16

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
  • Alma 5:26

26 And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?

  • I hope you enjoy the music as much as I do.

Where Two Or Three Are Gathered

    Matthew 18:20

20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
  • Doctrine and Covenants 6:32

32 Verily, verily, I say unto you, as I said unto my disciples, where two or three are gathered together in my name, as touching one thing, behold, there will I be in the midst of them—even so am I in the midst of you.

  • Learn of Me

    Doctrine and Covenants 19:23

23 Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.

    Have You Received His image...

    Alma 5:14

14 And now behold, I ask of you, my brethren of the church, have ye spiritually been born of God? Have ye received his image in your countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hearts?

(I chose this one simply because it was the longest. I love to get as complete a song as possible.)

Anything More or Less Than This...

    3 Nephi 11:31- 41

31 Behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, I will declare unto you my doctrine.

32 And this is my doctrine, and it is the doctrine which the Father hath given unto me; and I bear record of the Father, and the Father beareth record of me, and the Holy Ghost beareth record of the Father and me; and I bear record that the Father commandeth all men, everywhere, to repent and believe in me.

33 And whoso believeth in me, and is baptized, the same shall be saved; and they are they who shall inherit the kingdom of God.

34 And whoso believeth not in me, and is not baptized, shall be damned.

35 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that this is my doctrine, and I bear record of it from the Father; and whoso believeth in me believeth in the Father also; and unto him will the Father bear record of me, for he will visit him with fire and with the Holy Ghost.

36 And thus will the Father bear record of me, and the Holy Ghost will bear record unto him of the Father and me; for the Father, and I, and the Holy Ghost are one.

37 And again I say unto you, ye must repent, and become as a little child, and be baptized in my name, or ye can in nowise receive these things.

38 And again I say unto you, ye must repent, and be baptized in my name, and become as a little child, or ye can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God.

39 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that this is my doctrine, and whoso buildeth upon this buildeth upon my rock, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against them.

40 And whoso shall declare more or less than this, and establish it for my doctrine, the same cometh of evil, and is not built upon my rock; but he buildeth upon a sandy foundation, and the gates of hell stand open to receive such when the floods come and the winds beat upon them.

41 Therefore, go forth unto this people, and declare the words which I have spoken, unto the ends of the earth.

These verses were brought quite interestingly to my attention on another blog. Earlier in the day I had the thought, What is Christ's doctrine? Here was the answer. Believe in Him and be baptized. How simple. How beautiful. How loving. You would think it would be easy to understand but it seems to get lost in everything else.

On a different blog the author says this, "The key to unity, which is an integral part of Zion, is focusing and uniting on the gospel which is Faith, Repentance, Baptism, The Gift of the Holy Ghost. All the other things are just that: other things." How simple, how beautiful.

All the other things are just that: other things. The Doctrine of Christ is simple, believe in Him and be baptised. The gospel he taught was simple. Faith, Repentance, Baptism and the Gift of the Holy Ghost. All things we do and can do by believing in him. Anything more or less than this... Well...

I once told someone that obedience for the sake of obedience is a sin. There is a lot attributed to the gospel of Christ that we are told we must do in order to be saved.  Read your scriptures daily as a family and individually, Pray daily as a family and individually, have Family Home Evening, go to church, do your visiting and home teaching, always accept callings, attend the temple, do your missionary work, write in your journal, fast once a month, pay tithing and fast offering, etc. Good things all but why do we do them.  We are told they aere a part of the gospel. We do these things for the sake of obedience. What should we be doing them for? Without believing in Christ will any of these things have power to save us? Believeing in Christ do any of these things have power to save us?

What should we do? Believe in Christ. Come to Him. Follow Him. Learn of Him. Rejoice in Him. Accpet Him. Know Him.

    Another Testament of Jesus Christ

The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is a book surrounded with controversy. Accepted by some, rejected by others and ignored by the rest. It's origin and authenticity is constantly being debated even among those that profess to believe in the book. There are things written in it that cause peoples rational minds to fight it. Simple things like having steel. There are those that know they did not have steel it was only obsidian. I would think the authors of the book would know. None of that concerns me. I know the Book of Mormon is true.

In my youth I read it and as I read it I fasted and prayed to know if it was true. I received an answer. One audible to my mind though no one was physically there speaking to me. It said quite simply, "The Book of Mormon is the word of God and it was written for your day." There it is. My testimony of the Book of Mormon. It is true. It is the word of God. It was written for us. It will, if we allow it, bring us to Christ. That is it's purpose. It says on the title page just that.

"And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations."

This book is for all. One day when searching the internet I ran across The Baptist Version of the Book of Mormon. It is an interesting read. A Baptist minister loves The Book of Mormon. He sees the doctrine of the gospel there. Furthermore, he is swayed because it testifies of Christ. Here are some excerpts of what he said before sharing he parts of the book that mean something to him.

"I know. I can hear you now. "…A charismatic Baptist minister who believes the Book of Mormon?! Impossible. That’s like a Protestant Pope…" No, it’s not. It’s not a contradiction.

The two go hand in hand, really--Protestant doctrine and the Book of Mormon. They’re not at odds. The Book of Mormon is filled with Protestant cardinal doctrines, believe it or not. In fact, I discovered, the Book of Mormon is more "Baptist" than the Baptist hymnal in places. I know that’s hard to believe, but it’s so. I read the Book from cover to cover and found as a Baptist minister, there is absolutely nothing in it that contradicts the Bible.

For example, the book uplifts the blood of Christ (Mosiah 1:118), declares that salvation is only by God’s grace (2 Nephi 7:42), defends the grand theme of salvation (Mosiah 1:108), and proclaims that salvation comes only through faith on the Lord Jesus Christ (Mosiah 3:8,9). Other themes such as repentance, atonement by Christ’s blood, redemption, and forgiveness run like a scarlet thread through the book as well (Alma 3:86, Helaman 2:71, Alma 13:13, Mosiah 2:3,4). Thus, our "tongue ‘n’ cheek" title, The Baptist Version of the Book of Mormon. I’m telling you, the grand themes of Protestantism are found recorded through and through. From cover to cover."

"Speaking of the message of the Book of Mormon, what exactly is its message? What is its central theme? Restoration of the covenants in these latter days. That surprised me, blessed me, and witnessed to me.

No, the book is not meant to be used as a tool to proselyte you into some weird sect or cult. No, it’s not meant to be used to "make a Mormon" out of you. The Book of Mormon is the most nonsectarian book I’ve ever read! It’s meant for Catholics, for Methodists, Episcopalians, Lutherans, Charismatics, Seventh Day Adventists, for Baptists, Pentecostals…you name it. It speaks to all.

I’ll say it again. The central message of the Book of Mormon is—restoration of the covenants in these latter days! And that message is meant for all God’s children."

"In other words, the central message of the Book of Mormon is---to repent and come unto Christ, which means to establish a covenant with Him. And that message is coming to light in these latter days. And that’s why I embrace the Book of Mormon. Our generation knows very little, if anything, about establishing a covenant with Christ. Protestantism doesn’t teach it. Unfortunately, most of us are products of "cheap grace" and "decision-making" Sunday School preaching. Hosea described a people who were "…half baked" (Hosea 7:8). Like a cake not turned. Sadly, my generation fits the bill."

"Like the Bible, the central theme of the Book of Mormon is the Lordship of Jesus Christ. There are over 160 passages in the Book of Mormon that speak of the Lord Jesus Christ. There were 22 men named in the Book of Mormon who saw Christ. Some form of Christ’s name is mentioned on an average of every 1.7 verses. The New Testament mentions a form of Christ’s name on an average of every 2.1 verses. The name of the Savior appears nearly 25 percent more frequently in the Book of Mormon than in the New Testament. When we realize that a verse usually consists of one sentence, we cannot on the average read two sentences in the Book of Mormon without seeing some form of Christ’s name."

He has found and understands the central message of The Book of Mormon is to bring people to Christ. And he is right it does not need to be used to proselyte any into any weird cult or sect. That is not it's purpose. Read it, believe it, share it and let it do it's work.

No amount of evidences will ever concvince one that The Book of Mormon is true. Only the Holy Spirit can do that. Evidences are thrilling to see but they will only support what has been born by the spirit. If the spirit has not testified of the truthfulness of this book then the evidences will be easy to doubt and refute. A true understanding of this book can only come through the spirit.

Again, The Book of Mormon is true. It is the word of God. Its purpose is to bring people to Christ. We must embrace this book and its teachings. They will bring us to Christ. It will help us on the path to salvation and exaltation. There is power in it. This I know.

    Principles To Live By

I once asked a group of people to give me a list of principles to live by. The only response I got was the principle of doing work for the dead. While a good principle not quite what I was looking for. I was looking for those things that should govern our behavior in this world; the way we interact with our fellow man, the principles behind the commandments of God. The things Jesus did. How did He live His life? What were the principles behind His actions? Do we follow them and Him?

A couple of the principles I have come to understand we should be living more fully and doing from the heart not because we are told we should are forgiving others and serving others.

Please use the comments to add to this list or expound on any particular principle that has been mentioned. I would love to see this as an interactive post

    Receiving Christ

(Excerpt from a conversation with a friend)

"Gifts of the Spirit: mighty miracles, seeing angels (not just sensing they are there), etc. What do I lack? What is keeping me from believing? What sin? What error?

These are the words of a song by Jeff Goodrich that I often have going through my mind. I find them inspiring and uplifting.  "You can believe in Christ. You can receive the Christ. Walk in the joy of Christ and glory in His light. You can embrace the word until you face the word. Come and believe, come and receive Jesus Christ."

Which leads to these thoughts. What does it mean to believe in Christ? Or even believe Christ? What does it mean to receive Him? What is His joy? What is His light? How do we believe and receive Jesus Christ? Where do we find the answers to these questions? Then what do we do once we have the answers? (The answer to the last questions seems obvious.)

Answer these questions and act on them and I see miracles happening. Do you think His joy and/or His light may have something to do with serving our fellow man? Would we see mighty miracles and Gifts of the Spirit more abundantly if we served more abundantly? Is there more we should or must do?

Now 2 Nephi 25: 26 comes to mind. When I go and look at it I see there is more before and after but verse 26 is the most important.

23 For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.

24 And, notwithstanding we believe in Christ, we keep the law of Moses, and look forward with steadfastness unto Christ, until the law shall be fulfilled.

25 For, for this end was the law given; wherefore the law hath become dead unto us, and we are made alive in Christ because of our faith; yet we keep the law because of the commandments.

26 And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.

27 Wherefore, we speak concerning the law that our children may know the deadness of the law; and they, by knowing the deadness of the law, may look forward unto that life which is in Christ, and know for what end the law was given. And after the law is fulfilled in Christ, that they need not harden their hearts against him when the law ought to be done away.

We must come to a knowledge of Christ. The most sure way to get that knowledge is to desire, act and live in such a way that you can see Him in person as one man speaketh with another.

I Come To The Garden Alone

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
    The Son of God discloses.

    Refrain:
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
    And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
    None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice,
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
    Within my heart is ringing.

    Refrain:

I'd stay in the garden with Him
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling.

    Jesus IS The Christ

(Note: This post subject to change as I am able to more accurately convey my feelings with words.)

For several years now I have been hungry and thirsty. I have spent a great deal of time studying, learning and praying about spiritual things. I have read blogs, books, the scriptures. Always gaining understanding by the Spirit. In all of this I have come to one inescapable conclusion. JESUS IS THE CHRIST! The son of the living God. It is something I feel should have been distilled into me years ago. However, somewhere deep in my soul I know it is true.

He is the Christ. He lives. He loves us. He has redeemed us and we are nothing without Him.

In all I have been reading, studying and pondering the point always comes back to Christ, His life and His teachings. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We simply need to accept His offering for us and follow him. His yoke is easy and His burden is light for when I think on these things I feel a lightness in my soul, peace fills my heart and the love I feel is real.

It is now to become my earnest endeavor to work towards becoming like him. I am a weak individual. I have no strength of my own so I must rely on Him. It is not as easy as it sounds but whatever is going on in my life, I know this is the road to follow.

It has become increasingly apparent to me over the last several weeks as everything I have read and discussed with friends has come back to follow Christ, become like Him.

It is one of my dearest desires to see Him. To walk with Him and talk with Him as others have done. I spend a large quantity of time thinking about it. Now I need to spend a large quantity of time acting on it. Doing as he would have done.

I know where to go to continue to understand His ways. To learn the truths he taught. To become one with Him and to know him. Seeing Christ, learning of Him, becoming like Him is all that matters.

    You're Not Alone

    You're Not Alone

I can't make it imbed. I suppose because it isn't from YouTube, even though a search on YouTube is what brought me the link.

(I found the link on youtube and added it.  Jeremy)

    I Heard Him Come

    I Believe in Christ.

I believe in Christ. Apart from dreams, I have never seen Him, yet at times He has felt so close. It was as if the veil was as thin as gossamer and could be ripped open. Right now, I'm feeling pretty much the opposite, so I wanted to remind myself that He is there. He is real. He is awesome. He is someone I cannot comprehend.

I think the way we live and the way He would have us live (as a society, as well as individuals) is so foreign to us as a people, that we would have a humongous culture shock if we were thrust into that behavior, into that society. He may be patient with us, but I wonder if He becomes a bit torqued that we just don't get it, and we go along our merry Babylonian way, thinking this is the way things are supposed to be.
